How do you recondition adjustable open wire shelving?

I am re-doing my workshop and have four wire shelves that are in relatively good condition but are a bit rusty. Has anyone ever successfully reconditioned, re-chromed or rubberized these type of shelves. It seems a shame to toss them out but want everything to look new for sales reasons. Thanks!
