What does it mean to kill something in a dream?

I had this horrible dream. I was at work (a fast food place) and in the back of the store by a sink and a shelving unit full of cleaning supplies. There was a small white kitten that was following me around. I went to find it something to eat and I found half and half in the freezer. I poured it into a rectangular container, I didn't find it odd until now that it wasn't frozen. I then walked back to the sink and the shelves. I then set the container down for the kitten to drink from and all of the sudden it starts chewing on a plastic bag and so i went to shoo it away so it wouldn't choke and I ended up hitting in the head really hard I guess because it died instantly and I can remember actually feeling how stiff it was and its little mouth just hung open while its eyes were squeezed shut. I picked it up and was bent over crying so hard. I started crying and that is what woke me up. The kitten was pure white and about the size of a potato. Why did I have a dream about killing a poor little kitty? I would never hurt an animal intentionally, I can't even kill bugs. What does this mean?
