Would Be Ok For Me To Knit My Rat A Hammock?

I was just wondering if it would be ok to knit my rat like a hammock. Whenever I have her out (Alice) she is all over my knitting so I assume she likes it. I would watch her to make sure that she didn't chew it up but I can't watch her all the time. Should this be something that I try out or should I just shelve the idea?
