Shall I talk to him or not? confused!?

About a year ago I liked this guy called Tyler, he liked me back too. But this girl came alone Hollie and was SO pushy, she asked him out and kept saying that she will be heartbroken if he says no and such, so they went out! They stayed together for abut a year and a half, total opposites for each other and my friend just text me saying they have split up. There is a part of me that still likes him and I feel bad for him as apparently he is quite upset (We drifted apart since he went out with Hollie). I want to talk to him to see if he's okay and stuff, but I don't know what to say or if he thinks I fancy him or something? What shall I do? (I do still like him a little, but I am not expecting us to go out!)
